The University of Lagos’ (UNILAG) Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Laboratory (AIRLAB) partnered with NaijaCoder Inc. to offer a free coding program for high school students in Lagos this summer. Running from August 19 to August 30, 2024, the two-week program trained 80 underserved students in algorithms, data structures, and Python programming. Volunteer teaching assistants, many of whom were alumni of Nigerian schools now studying at prestigious U.S. universities, led the sessions. The initiative aims to address gaps in Nigeria’s education system, where many students struggle to gain university admission.
