Recent revelations shed light on why the 17 rescued Chibok schoolgirls and their children remain in the custody of the Borno state government under Prof. Umaru Zulum, rather than being with their parents. Allegedly, officials of the Borno state government are aware of Leah Sharibu’s whereabouts in Maiduguri and are reportedly negotiating her reunion with her parents. According to activist Rev. Kallamu Musa Ali Dikwa, the government hesitated to publicly announce Leah Sharibu’s rescue because she refused to convert to Islam and would not agree to stay in their custody like the other rescued Chibok schoolgirls.
