Drivers say Some Houston ISD Buses Carrying Children with Special Needs do not Have Working Air Conditioners

On the first day of the Houston ISD school year, Superintendent Mike Miles highlighted a problem with bus service as “unacceptable.” Issues included inaccurate route information due to a software glitch and buses carrying special needs children without functioning air conditioning. Drivers reported concerns about the heat on buses and difficulties in addressing these issues due to a shortage of mechanics. Despite the overall positive start to the school year, these transportation problems affected some families significantly. Miles promised to resolve the issues in the coming days.
