New Hampshire Schools told to Expect Less State aid for Special Education Costs

Education Commissioner Frank Edelblut announced that school districts will receive significantly less state aid for special education costs, a change that has raised concerns among local school leaders. Under Edelblut’s plan, the state’s contribution to special education funding will drop from 87% to 67.5% in 2025, leaving districts to make up the difference. This reduction is expected to strain small and rural districts, potentially forcing them to ask local taxpayers for additional funds or cut teaching positions and enrichment programs like art and music.
