New NHS children’s gender clinic hit by disagreements and resignations

February 13 2024- A series of resignations within the team preparing for the launch of the new NHS children’s gender clinic has created challenges for the planned April opening. Disagreements over the content of a training module for medical recruits led to NHS England outsourcing the training materials project from Great Ormond Street hospital to the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges. At least four members of the initial team resigned over disputes on the treatment approach for children with gender dysphoria. The new NHS Children’s and Young People’s Gender Service for London is set to open in April, a year later than initially scheduled, replacing the Tavistock clinic’s gender identity development service.
