State Suspends Teaching License of Former Ringling Football Coach Facing Criminal Charge

The Oklahoma State Board of Education has unanimously voted to suspend the teaching and administrative licenses of Phil Koons for one year. This decision follows allegations from Ringling football players who accused him of bullying and harassment. Koons was charged with outraging public decency in October for reportedly shouting profanities at players. Although he was allowed to withdraw his no contest plea in March, he has since stepped away from his position at Ringling High School, where he remains listed as principal on the school’s website. Koons, a renowned high school football coach with multiple state championships, faced previous complaints before his 2018 hiring at Ringling.
