< 1 min read

Patricia Wick of Jamestown, North Dakota, received a nearly 19-year prison sentence after the death of a baby and injury of another child at her unlicensed home child care center. Wick pleaded guilty to felony charges of murder and child abuse, along with a misdemeanor for operating an unlicensed day care center. The judge sentenced her to 40 years in prison, with 20 years suspended, and mandated registration as an offender against children, plus 10 years of supervised probation. Prosecutors alleged Wick caused head and neck injuries to a 5-month-old boy who later died, ruled a homicide by blunt force trauma. Wick admitted to not being gentle with the baby and being frustrated with him. Another child under Wick’s care suffered a broken arm, with Wick failing to report the injury promptly. Wick’s public defender and the state’s attorney did not respond to requests for comment.
