Teacher training programs don’t always use research-backed reading methods

< 1 min read

February 21 2024- A group of college students, under the guidance of education professor Robin Fuxa at Oklahoma State University, are engaged in a language exercise. They are pronouncing the word “pat” and taking notes on the sounds produced. Fuxa instructs them to pay attention to the shapes their mouths make during pronunciation and encourages them to feel the way the words sound as they speak. The exercise is part of a reading instruction class, demonstrating an interactive and sensory approach to language learning.
