Understanding civics, from the classroom to the city

< 1 min read

March 13 2024- Henry Seyue, a high school student from New Haven in 2017, expressed a strong interest in studying law, particularly constitutional law, as he entered his senior year. Recognizing his academic dedication, one of his teachers recommended that he attend Citizens Thinkers Writers (CTW), a tuition-free residential summer program at Yale University. At CTW, Seyue explored foundational texts in philosophy, political science, and literature, encountering works by figures such as W.E.B. Du Bois, Socrates, and Martin Luther King Jr. His experience with King’s “Letter from a Birmingham Jail” significantly influenced his understanding of good citizenship. Now a first-year law student at the University of Connecticut, Seyue attributes CTW to deepening and broadening his interest in law and civic life.
