Both Sides Weigh in as Chesterfield School Board Debates Transgender Student Policy Change

< 1 min read

The Chesterfield County Public School (CCPS) board meeting Tuesday night focused on a policy regarding the rights of transgender students and parents. While the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) released updated policies in 2023 under Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s administration, CCPS has continued to follow the 2021 guidelines. The school board is now set to vote on whether to adopt the new policies or retain the old ones, with parents on both sides urging a decision by the next meeting in December. Supporters of the proposed revision argue it would protect parents’ rights to be informed if their child wishes to use a different name or pronouns at school.
