Cyntoia Brown, sentenced to life for murder, granted clemency: A look at her case

Cyntoia Brown, a Tennessee woman who was given a life sentence for a murder she committed when she was a 16-year-old, was officially granted clemency by Gov. Bill Haslam. Haslam commuted her life sentence, and Brown will be released to parole supervision on Aug. 7, he said in a statement. Brown had served 15 years in prison before the governor’s decision.
