A group of Fresno Unified paraprofessionals working with autistic children at Ericson Elementary School voiced concerns at a School Board meeting about recent job reassignments. They argue that the changes are making classrooms less safe and disrupting education time. The paraprofessionals, who provide critical support for children with moderate to severe autism, plan to continue attending board meetings until the issue is addressed. Previously, four staff members worked closely with a teacher to provide intensive support for preschool and kindergarten students with autism. This support is crucial for the children’s socialization and educational development. However, recent changes have affected the staffing dynamics, raising concerns about safety and the quality of care and education provided.
