Harmony Montgomery’s dad is guilty of murder. But what about the state agencies that failed her?

< 1 min read

February 29 2024- Harmony Montgomery’s father, Adam, was convicted of her murder, but the focus is now on the failures of state agencies, specifically the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families and New Hampshire’s Division for Children, Youth and Families. The Office of the Child Advocate investigated Harmony’s care, revealing she was moved between her mother and a foster family multiple times. In 2018, Adam petitioned for custody, despite minimal prior involvement. A Massachusetts judge granted him custody in 2019, leading to her move to New Hampshire and the end of Massachusetts DCF oversight. Critics point to this decision as pivotal in Harmony’s tragic fate. The judge involved retired six months after the decision, occasionally serving as a recall judge until September 2023.
