Jackson School Board Signs Resolution Against Private School Vouchers

< 1 min read

The Jackson County Board of Education has passed a resolution urging the North Carolina General Assembly to prioritize funding for public education over expanding the private school voucher system. Superintendent Dana Ayers emphasized their belief that public school funds should not be allocated to private sectors. Governor Roy Cooper previously designated 2024 as “The Year of Public Schools” to advocate for increased K-12 public education funding. Despite the absence of a finalized budget for the upcoming fiscal year, there are proposals to significantly increase funding for the Opportunity Scholarship program, which supports K-12 private school vouchers.
