Man who Stole $16.7M From Southern California School District Gets 6 Years

< 1 min read

Jorge Armando Contreras, a former senior director of fiscal services for the Magnolia School District in Orange County, was sentenced to five years and eight months in federal prison for embezzling nearly $17 million from the district. Hired in 2006, Contreras diverted funds by issuing checks to fictitious names and depositing them into his personal account, using falsified records to conceal his fraud. Law enforcement has seized about $7.7 million in assets linked to his scheme, including a luxury home, car, designer bags, and jewelry. In addition to his prison term, Contreras must repay the full amount stolen. The case underscores the severe consequences of betraying public trust, particularly when it impacts vulnerable students.
