February 12 2024- The Mills administration in Maine has implemented the initial phase of pay increases for approximately 7,000 child care workers. This action is in line with a two-year budget approved by the Legislature the previous summer. The raised monthly stipends, effective from November, range from $275 to $625, depending on the worker’s tier, education, and experience. As part of this initiative, third-tier workers will also receive an additional $100 per month as retroactive pay for the past few months. This salary supplement increase is a result of a bipartisan budget agreement that doubled state funding for stipends to $30 million annually, backed by legislation sponsored by Senate President Troy Jackson.
