February 20 2024- Northeastern University’s N.U.in program, which sends students abroad for their first semester, has made a significant change. Traditionally, students received a separate GPA for their classes at affiliated universities, and their Northeastern GPA was determined after completing the second semester on the Boston campus. However, the university recently announced that grades obtained during study abroad would now be reflected in students’ GPAs and transcripts at Northeastern. This alteration has sparked mixed reactions, with some students valuing the opportunity to explore without grade concerns, while others see it as a potential boost to their overall GPA, facilitating job applications and further education pursuits. The shift from the previous pass/fail system has been a point of contention, exacerbated by pandemic-related changes to the N.U.in program. Even when students stayed in Boston due to pandemic restrictions, they were graded using the pass/fail system typically employed in study abroad locations.
