No mandate: DeWine wants school bus safety and driver training improvements, stops short of seatbelt requirement

< 1 min read

February 16 2024- Ohio Governor Mike DeWine is supporting new measures to enhance school bus safety. The proposed safety features include external cameras, collision avoidance systems, and reflective chevron markings on the rear of buses. However, Governor DeWine has decided against mandating seat belts for children on all school buses. Ohio is one of 42 states without a mandate for seat belts on school buses. The decision comes as part of broader efforts to improve school bus safety and protect students during transportation.
