The League of Imams and Alfas in Ogun State on Monday lamented the adverse effects of the prolonged strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, saying the disruption of the academic calendar encourages idleness that exposes young people to vices such as drug abuse, crime, and restlessness, with ripple effects on communities. The Muslim leaders, therefore, appealed to the Federal Government to engage in sincere dialogue with the striking lecturers with a view to resolving lingering issues surrounding the implementation of the 2009 agreement it signed with ASUU, particularly those relating to revitalising university education in Nigeria.
