Schools chancellor releases ‘Reimagining Special Education’ report as city works to make public schools more inclusive

February 16 2024- Schools Chancellor David C. Banks announced the completion of the “Reimagining Special Education” report, the first official report from the New York City Public Schools Special Education Advisory Council. The council, formed in December 2022, spent its first year analyzing the state of special education in New York City, identifying gaps in services and programming. The report includes five key recommendations, emphasizing full inclusivity, restructuring general education classes, and strengthening trust between schools and families, among other areas of focus.
