Bessemer City Schools in Alabama will now be under state oversight following a unanimous vote by the Alabama Board of Education. This change means that the local school board will no longer manage decisions related to personnel, finance, or operations. Despite the state intervention, the district will retain its current superintendent, Dana Arreola, and school board, but will now operate under the supervision of a state-appointed intervention team. Longtime superintendent Daniel Boyd will serve as the chief administrative officer overseeing the intervention locally.
