Trent Van Leuven, the 2024 Idaho CapEd Credit Union Teacher of the Year, recently attended the Spirit of Boise festival for the first time, despite having taught in Idaho for 16 years. Van Leuven, who teaches agriculture and natural resources at Mackay Junior-Senior High School, expressed his excitement about the opportunity to see Boise from above. He was recognized for his outstanding teaching, including his involvement in a fish hatchery program where his students released 700 golden trout into the Lost River. Idaho Superintendent of Public Instruction, Debbie Critchfield, praised Van Leuven for his leadership and ability to connect classroom learning with real-world applications.
