The Learning Years Child Development Center in Woodruff, located on East Hayne Street, is currently under investigation by the Department of Social Services (DSS). The daycare’s owner, Cyndie Blikle Cooper, initially announced on Facebook that DSS had shut down the center, but later clarified that she voluntarily closed it due to severe staffing shortages, citing safety concerns for children and staff. The daycare has a history of citations from DSS dating back to 2022, including issues with supervision, staff records, and certification requirements. Most recently, on July 20, 2024, DSS found the daycare out of compliance again for inadequate supervision and improper adult-to-child ratios. The investigation follows an incident where a child from the daycare was found unsupervised on a busy street in June. DSS has confirmed they are investigating the matter but have not closed the center as of their latest statement.
