February 26 2024- Bethany Clark, a college graduate in 2021, moved back in with her parents in Surrey, England, after landing her first teaching job in 2022. Despite being employed, she opted to stay with her parents to save money. This trend is not unique to Clark; there has been a significant increase in the number of adults living with their parents in the UK, with 620,000 more than a decade ago. In the United States, the percentage of young adults residing with their parents has risen by 87% over the past two decades, reaching over half of 18- to 24-year-olds. A recent survey by RentCafe indicates that 41% of adult Gen Z respondents living with family expect to continue doing so for at least another two years.
