ICYMI: Protests Erupt Across Canada as 70,000 International Students Face Deportation

< 1 min read

Tens of thousands of international students across Canada protested this week against new immigration policies that they argue jeopardize their future in the country. Approximately 70,000 students demonstrated in provinces such as Prince Edward Island, Ontario, Manitoba, and British Columbia. The protests were triggered by recent changes to immigration rules, including the abolition of the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) program in 2021 and the introduction of a two-year cap on international student visas. These reforms have led to fears of deportation among students and a potential 35% reduction in foreign student intake.
