Janet Benavides has been named the interim principal of Lantrip Elementary School, following the abrupt removal of former Principal Valiza Castro. The Houston Independent School District (HISD) made the announcement on Wednesday, hours after Lantrip parents protested, demanding transparency about Castro’s removal. Benavides, who previously served as the principal of Laurenzo Early Childhood Center, will transition between the two schools this week and fully take on the role at Lantrip on December 2. This marks the second principal turnover at Lantrip this year, amid concerns about leadership instability and a high teacher turnover rate of 70% since June. Parents are calling for greater transparency and stability in the district.
