A recent review published in the British medical journal BMJ, based on data from 14 studies involving nearly 10 million participants, highlights the negative impact of highly processed foods on both mental and physical health. The researchers focused on ultra-processed foods (UPFs) and their associations with conditions such as Type 2 diabetes, anxiety, cancer, and premature death. Using the NOVA system to classify foods based on processing levels, the study excluded research funded by UPF manufacturers and emphasized the detrimental effects of consuming such foods.
