The Adinya Arise Foundation (AAF), an NGO, has called for improved access to sanitary pads for women and young girls in Nigeria to protect their dignity. Mrs. Mabel Ade, AAF’s director, made this appeal during a policy dialogue in Abuja to mark International Menstrual Hygiene Day, themed “Bridging Widening Gender Gap in Education Through ‘Pad A Girl A Month’ School Initiative.” Celebrated annually on May 28, this day raises awareness about the importance of menstrual hygiene management. AAF focuses on women empowerment and maternal health, emphasizing the importance of menstrual health. Ade highlighted that poverty often forces women to prioritize basic needs over menstrual products, making it challenging to afford sanitary pads, especially for displaced families.
