Parents of a Dallas ISD preschooler, Robert and his wife, are outraged after their 4-year-old daughter, Araiya, was left alone on a hot school bus for seven hours. Araiya, who is autistic and non-verbal, was left at the bus depot in Lancaster with temperatures in the 90s. The incident came to light when the Pruitts were informed that their daughter had not made it to school and was found at the depot. She was taken to the hospital for evaluation and hydration. Dallas ISD issued a statement expressing shock and committing to a thorough investigation. The district indicated that the driver involved has been fired, though this has not been officially confirmed. Pruitt criticized the district’s response and called for the incident to serve as a lesson to improve safety procedures. He is also seeking access to video footage of the incident.
