On August 23, the Nigerian Minister of Education announced that only eight universities in Benin Republic and Togo were accredited, leading to the delisting of others. This decision, reiterated on August 25, was based on an investigative report revealing some degrees were awarded in as little as two months and that many of these institutions were not recognized by their own countries’ laws. An official from ESN University disputed the Minister’s claims, providing documents to prove their accreditation by the Benin government and other education boards. Despite these efforts and attempts to contact the Minister, there has been no response. Students and parents remain hopeful for presidential intervention to resolve the situation.
