District Fires Driver, Monitors who Left North Kingstown Student Alone on School Bus

< 1 min read

The North Kingstown School Department fired the bus driver and monitors responsible for leaving a 4-year-old boy unattended on a school bus. Superintendent Kenneth Duva stated that they failed to follow mandatory safety procedures, including checking the bus after dropping off students. The incident occurred during the district’s extended school year program, and the child was found wandering the bus yard unharmed. While no charges have been filed, the district is enhancing safety protocols, re-training staff, and considering new technologies like enhanced bus security cameras to prevent future incidents and restore community trust in their transportation services.
