On Monday night, the Oxford Hills School District Board of Directors met to discuss options for the district’s elementary schools following the closure of Agnes Grey Elementary School in West Paris due to safety concerns in February. After reviewing options from a March 26 school construction workshop, the board decided to present two options to residents for feedback. Option 1 would maintain all eight elementary schools, as well as the junior high and high schools, without any consolidation. Option 2 would consolidate students into five elementary schools and a single middle school for grades 6–8. While the school administration supports the consolidated middle school, many residents voiced their preference for keeping an elementary school in each community. School board chairman Troy Ripley emphasised the need to balance emotional attachment to small community schools with the responsibility to make decisions in the best interest of everyone involved.
