Sweden Recommends no Screens for Toddlers

On September 2, Sweden’s Public Health Agency advised that toddlers should not use screens at all. For children aged 2 to 5, screen time should be limited to one hour per day, and for those aged 6 to 12, it should be restricted to one or two hours daily. Teenagers aged 13 to 18 should have no more than two to three hours of screen time per day. The recommendations also include avoiding screens before bedtime and keeping phones and tablets out of bedrooms to prevent poor sleep, depression, and body dissatisfaction. Public Health Minister Jakob Forssmed highlighted concerns over excessive screen use impacting sleep and overall well-being, with ongoing discussions about potentially banning smartphones in primary schools.
