Shane Roper, a Minnesota State Patrol trooper, faces charges of second-degree manslaughter and criminal vehicular homicide following a May incident where he collided with a Ford Focus in Rochester, resulting in the death of Olivia Flores, an 18-year-old high school cheerleader. The crash occurred during Roper’s pursuit of a traffic violator, during which he reportedly turned off his emergency lights, accelerated well above the speed limit, and violently struck the Focus. Flores died at the scene, and her friends and others involved sustained injuries. Flores, described as a special young lady nearing graduation, was remembered fondly by her community, including her cheerleading team, which has organized fundraising efforts to support her family. As of now, it’s unclear if Roper has entered pleas or retained legal representation.
