< 1 min read

A 16-year-old girl from Topsfield, Massachusetts, sustained minor burns when a portable phone charger exploded during a movie night at a friend’s house. Audra Cataldo’s phone, magnetically attached to the charger, caught fire, engulfing her arm in flames and filling the room with thick smoke. Thankfully, she and her friends evacuated safely before firefighters arrived, limiting the damage to around $5,000. The fire chief praised the teens for their quick response and noted that the incident could have been catastrophic if they had been asleep. The fire, linked to a portable charger purchased on Amazon, is under investigation, with officials reminding the public to exercise caution with lithium-ion batteries. Cataldo expressed her determination never to use portable chargers again after the traumatic experience.
