Woman Sentenced to Prison After Infant Died During co-Sleeping

< 1 min read

A judge has sentenced 34-year-old Tricia Cavanaugh to 16 years in prison for the death of her infant child. Cavanaugh pleaded guilty to neglect resulting in serious bodily injury after her 4-month-old baby was found unconscious at home in June 2016 and later pronounced dead. Investigators reported that she had taken drugs before falling asleep with the baby in bed. During the sentencing, Cavanaugh referred to herself as a “super mom,” but the judge questioned this claim. Prosecutor Eric Hoffman highlighted the case as an example of a preventable infant death due to unsafe sleep practices, urging caregivers to adhere to safe sleep guidelines.
