March 5 2024- Dunn Elementary, a school within the Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) system, is set to lose its physical education program next year due to low enrollment. In a letter to families, the school’s leaders attribute this decision to JCPS’s new student assignment plan, which has resulted in a reduced number of expected students attending Dunn Elementary. The projected enrollment for the upcoming year is 430 students, while the school has a capacity for 641 students. The school leaders clarified that it was a decision made at the school level rather than a district-wide directive.
