Low-Carb Diets That Focus on Plant Protein Are Better for Weight Management, Study Says

< 1 min read

A recent study published in JAMA Network Open suggests that replacing carbohydrates with plant-based foods rather than meat could lead to less long-term weight gain. Low-carb dieters who consumed more animal-based protein tended to gain more weight over time compared to those who opted for foods like non-starchy vegetables and whole grains. The study highlights that not all low-carb diets are equally effective in managing weight in the long term, according to Qi Sun, an associate professor at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. While low-carb diets typically involve avoiding carbohydrate-rich foods in favor of protein and fat, the study emphasizes the importance of the quality of food choices for weight management.
