Third grade Knox County class to retake ELA TCAP after proctor misreads directions, state says

< 1 min read

A group of third-graders at Rocky Hill Elementary School in Knoxville, Tennessee, will need to retake the English/Language Arts portion of the TCAP test due to a proctor’s error that invalidated the original test. Under a new state law, students must show year-over-year growth in standardized tests. Those who score “approaching” proficiency after retesting must attend summer school or receive tutoring, while those scoring “below” must do both. The retest will occur in May, giving affected students the same opportunities as others to advance to fourth grade. The recent TCAP testing changes, implemented last school year, have been criticized by parents and educators for causing significant stress on young students.
