A single father of a student with special needs is being sued for $600,000 by a Virginia school board

< 1 min read

David Rife, a single father in Bedford County, Virginia, is fighting for his special needs son’s education. Despite his son’s significant reading delay, the school has not provided the necessary services mandated by his IEP. After repeatedly raising concerns with no resolution, Rife filed a complaint with the Virginia Department of Education, which found the school non-compliant. In retaliation, the Bedford County School Board sued Rife for $600,000, accusing him of using inappropriate language. Rife, restricted to limited email contact with school officials, maintains he is passionately advocating for his son’s rights. The school district has not commented on the lawsuit.
