DISD Board Approves ‘Parenting Classes’ as Discipline Option in New Student Code of Conduct

< 1 min read

The Dallas Independent School District board approved a new student code of conduct allowing options like Saturday school, community service, and parenting classes instead of alternative school for certain disciplinary infractions starting in the 2024-2025 school year. Parenting classes are mandatory alongside these options. This change targets “Level II” offenses such as assault, bullying, and hate speech, with discretion left to campus leaders. Hate speech violations now result in guidance from district police and the racial equity office, potentially leading to alternative school placement if specific criteria are met.
