Two teenage girls, Elle Kim (13) and Sarina Vootkur (16), tragically died in a collision on Lake Marie in Illinois. Kim was driving a Yamaha jet ski at high speed with Vootkur as a passenger when they collided with a Sea Ray Cabin Cruiser driven by a 55-year-old man. Despite wearing life vests, both girls were knocked unconscious and thrown into the water upon impact. The occupants of the boat pulled them from the water and rendered aid, but the girls succumbed to blunt-force injuries at a local hospital. Eyewitnesses noted the jet ski’s high speed left the boater no chance to avoid the collision, highlighting the dangers of inexperienced jet ski operation.
