March 5 2024- In December 2022, 5-year-old Keaton Peck was diagnosed with leukemia during a trip to Minnesota. After an emergency round of chemotherapy at Children’s Minnesota, no cancer was detected, but doctors recommended two to five more years of treatment. Keaton’s parents decided against further chemotherapy, leading to them being reported to child protective services and losing medical custody. Over a year later, they may take their case to the Minnesota Supreme Court to regain medical decision rights. The current situation involves disagreement between the parents and doctors, with the court allowing the medical professionals to decide on Keaton’s treatment plan. Despite the parents’ appeal being denied, they continue to fight for control over their child’s medical decisions
