Former assistant principal accuses Columbus City Schools of racial discrimination

< 1 min read

Karen Carey, a former assistant principal at South High School in Columbus City Schools, has filed a federal civil rights complaint against the district, alleging racial discrimination and retaliation. Carey accuses the district and several school administrators of treating her differently because she is Black. She claims she was excluded from administrative meetings and messaging channels, retaliated against for reporting discrimination, and faced disparate treatment for nearly two years starting in September 2020, largely attributed to actions by South High School Principal Christy Nickerson. Columbus City Schools declined to comment on the matter.
