A former assistant principal at Richneck Elementary in Virginia, Ebony Parker, was indicted on eight felony counts of child abuse and disregard for life after a 6-year-old student brought a gun to school and shot teacher Abigail Zwerner last year. Parker resigned shortly after the incident. Each felony count carries up to five years in prison. Zwerner survived the shooting and has filed a $40 million lawsuit against the school board and administrators, alleging that they ignored warnings about the student having a gun. The indictment highlights the alleged negligence of the school district in preventing the shooting.
